Our impact
‘FFS, What a Campaign’ is the culmination of nearly two years work from a dedicated group of staff, supporters, activists and volunteers. Like all good stories, our one starts in a pub, and none of us three could’ve dreamed of the heights that For our Future’s Sake were to scale, from our humble beginnings.
This report is both a celebration, and a chance for reflection. We are incredibly proud of the things that FFS has achieved;
- Mobilising thousands of young people and students to take political action, lobbying MPs, organising events and getting young people registered to vote.
- Changing the nature of the Brexit debate, with hundreds of diverse young people from across the country having their voices heard on television, radio and print media, and multiple high profile social media interventions.
- Influencing the Brexit debate, in particular in the Labour Party, with dozens of MPs signing our FFS pledge and FFS activists leading the campaigns around Labour party conference, to change party policy.
Ultimately, our fight for a Final Say referendum was not successful, and we believe young people will bear the consequences of that. It is too soon to fully understand the reasons why, but it certainly wasn’t down to the lack of energy, passion and ambition from our activists.
Those brilliant activists were let down, by privileged vested interests at the top of the People’s Vote Campaign, and by a political class who often didn’t want to hear what they had to say.
But as we move forward into a new decade, we know that we have helped forge a new kind of politics – diverse, open, cross-party, radical and inclusive. We can only hope that our current political leaders take note, because whilst SW1 was talking about how to create a different type of politics, young people just went and did it.
